Bhopal Gas Tragedy is regarded as one of the worst industrial accidents polluting the atmosphere. It occurred in December 1984. The tragic accident occurred due to the leakage of methyle isocyanate, a very poisonous gas from the union carbide pesticide plant in Bhopal.
The gas leakage accident affected around 2,00,000 residents in the city and killed at least 5000 people. Many people crippled in the accident are still languishing.
London as a city has the longest record of intermittent air pollution. In 1952 there took place the disaster known as London Smog The word smog has been coined to describe the condition created by. combination of smoke plus fog. Smoke emitted from burning coal mixed with fog created the smog in 1952. The disaster lasted for five days and claimed not less than four thousand lives. The mortality was high among the old people, children and people having respiratory trouble.
